Basketball Recap: Montgomery Makes It Three in a Row on the Road

Montgomery won the last time they faced Mater Dei Catholic, and Paula Zumstein did her part to make sure it happened again. The Montgomery Aztecs sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 58-56 win over the Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders on Thursday thanks in part to Zumstein, who posted 19 points. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Chrisdean Larsen was another key player, putting up eight points. That's the most points she has posted since back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Mater Dei Catholic still got an impressive performance from Promise Martin, who went 8-for-17 en route to 16 points along with seven boards and six steals. Martin has become a key player for Mater Dei Catholic: the team is 8-4 when she posts at least five steals, but 7-8 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Jarika Chan, who scored 13 points and three steals.

Montgomery's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-9. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points over those games. As for Mater Dei Catholic, their loss dropped their record down to 15-12.

As of now, neither Montgomery nor Mater Dei Catholic have any future games scheduled.
