Basketball Game Preview: University Trojans vs. La Quinta Aztecs

The University Trojans and the La Quinta Aztecs will face off at 4:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

University saw some tournament action on Thursday. They fell 39-32 to Wilson.

Loss or not, University got some senior leadership from Ai Miyano and Julia Holmes. Miyano posted 12 points in addition to six boards and three steals, while Holmes put up eight points and seven rebounds. The dominant performance gave Miyano a new career-high in boards.

Even though they lost, University smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in three consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, La Quinta unfortunately witnessed the end of their eight-game winning streak on Thursday. They lost to Douglas on the road by a 48-34 margin. While losing is never fun, the Aztecs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 496th in California, while the Tigers are ranked 50th in Nevada).

University has been struggling recently as they've lost nine of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for La Quinta, their defeat dropped their record down to 11-4.
