Mason County Central is 7-1 against Holton since April of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Spartans are taking a road trip to challenge the Red Devils at 4:00 p.m. One thing working in Mason County Central's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
On Monday, Mason County Central got the win against Hart by a conclusive 15-7. The Spartans haven't had any issues with the Pirates recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Kaden Ruiz was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most runs he has posted over his last eight matchups. Michael Chye also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Mason County Central lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
St. Mary Cathedral hit Holton with a five-run fifth inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Red Devils fell just short of the Eagles by a score of 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Red Devils have suffered since May 31, 2025.
Lane Frees and Fisher Mirkle stepped up to the plate in a big way. Frees got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Mirkle went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases and three runs. Frees has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last eight times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Berghuis, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three stolen bases and one run.
Mason County Central's win bumped their record up to 10-11. As for Holton, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-12-1 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mason County Central has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.6 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Holton struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Mason County Central's way against Holton in their previous matchup back in April of 2025, as Mason County Central made off with an 11-1 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
