Basketball Recap: San Pasqual Valley Triumphs

San Pasqual Valley waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They escaped with a win against the Salome Frogs by the margin of a single free throw, 46-45. This was a revenge game for the Warriors: when they faced off against the Frogs on January 8th, they had to take a 42-23 defeat.

San Pasqual Valley's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kyla Emerson, who posted 15 points and four steals. Emerson has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last 11 times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Daeja Villicana, who put up 13 points and four steals.

When it comes to explaining why Salome lost, don't look at Grecia Leon. Despite the final result, she went 9 of 16 en route to 24 points and eight boards. That's the most points Leon has posted since back in January of 2024. Brianna Thomas was another key player, putting up 14 points and eight rebounds.

San Pasqual Valley has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-3 record this season. As for Salome, their record now sits at 11-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. San Pasqual Valley will square off against Anthem Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Anthem Prep has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Salome, they will challenge Bagdad at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Salome's defense has only allowed 29.9 points per game this season, so Bagdad's offense will have their work cut out for them.
