Softball Game Preview: Legacy Lightning vs. Mead Mavericks

The Legacy Lightning will head out to challenge the Mead Mavericks at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Legacy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.1 runs per game this season.

Legacy will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Tuesday, then bounced right back against Monarch on Wednesday. The Lightning put the hurt on the Coyotes with a sharp 15-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Lightning, who have now won nine games by ten runs or more so far this season.

Legacy got a massive performance out of Megan Sandusky, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Sandusky a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Susan Perkins, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Legacy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Mead ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past Niwot 13-12. The Mavericks haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Legacy's record is now 12-10. As for Mead, their record now sits at an identical 12-10.

Legacy suffered a grim 21-2 defeat to Mead when the teams last played back in September of 2024. Can the Lightning avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
