Basketball Recap: Waterford Takes a Loss

Waterford lost against Mariposa County on January 7th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Waterford Wildcats had to suffer through a 54-23 loss at the hands of the Mariposa County Grizzlies. The Wildcats were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 31-7.

Mariposa County's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Denise Corona, who posted ten points along with six boards and four steals. Corona is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed three or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Celina Heard, who scored nine points and three steals.

Waterford has traveled a rocky road recently having lost eight of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Mariposa County, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-7.

Waterford will challenge Delhi at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Waterford is facing Delhi at the right time seeing as Delhi is stuck on a 15-game losing streak. As for Mariposa County, they will square off against Stone Ridge Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
