Football Recap: Lakin Comes Up Short at Home Against Stanton County

Lakin unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost 36-12 to the Stanton County Trojans on Friday. The Broncs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Trojans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.

Stanton County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sean Hines led the charge by rushing for 129 yards and one TD on only 11 carries. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 90 yards. Ian Floyd was in the mix too, providing Stanton County with two touchdowns.

Lakin has already played their next matchup, a 42-6 defeat against Burlington on the 5th. As for Stanton County, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Deerfield at 7:00 p.m. on the 20th.
