Recap: Ramona Rams vs. Villa Park Spartans
The Ramona Rams's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their fifth straight loss. The match between Ramona and Villa Park wasn't particularly close, with Ramona falling 52-33. While losing is never fun, Ramona can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 693rd, while Villa Park is ranked 327th).
Despite the defeat, Ramona saw an underclassman step up: Jaiden Tibbels scored 14 points along with three steals. Tibbels is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Villa Park to victory, but perhaps none more so than Bailey Roczey, who scored 14 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Madelyn Martinez, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and five steals.
Ramona has been struggling recently, as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-6 record this season. As for Villa Park, their victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Ramona will take on Wilson at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Villa Park will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Mater Academy East Las Vegas at 3:00 p.m. on December 27th. Mater Academy East Las Vegas has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
