Softball Recap: Mullen Has No Trouble Against Moffat County

Mullen's game on Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Saturday. Everything went their way against the Moffat County Bulldogs as they made off with a 17-1 victory. While the Mustangs didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Bayla Slucki was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out six batters over two innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, Mullen got a massive performance out of Haddie Slucki, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Slucki has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Aoife Watson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Mullen always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .708. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Mullen's record is now 6-2. As for Moffat County, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-6.

Looking ahead, Mullen will face off against Palisade at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Moffat County, they will challenge Frederick at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Golden Eagles have averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season.
