Softball Game Preview: Westminster Wildcats vs. Woodward Academy War Eagles

The Westminster Wildcats will take on the Woodward Academy War Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Westminster will be strutting in after a victory while Woodward Academy will be coming in after a loss.

If Westminster beats Woodward Academy with seven runs on Monday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Wildcats didn't even let Whitefield Academy on the board on Thursday, marking the Wildcats' second-straight 7-0 shutout. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the WolfPack: they've now won four in a row.

Meanwhile, Woodward Academy was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of North Atlanta.

Cymone Woodfaulk spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and five unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Maya Hatch was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Claire Cavanaugh, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.

Woodward Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-3. As for Westminster, their victory bumped their record up to 2-0.
