Basketball Recap: Baker Comes Up Short

Baker was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They took a blow against the Trona Tornadoes, falling 51-20. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Braves this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 36-11 back in December of 2024.

Despite the loss, Baker had strong showings from Jimena Galvez, who went 5 for 11 on her way to 16 points, and Claudia Licona, who posted no points along with six boards, six steals, and three blocks. The dominant performance also gave Licona a new career-high in assists (three).

Trona was led to victory by Samantha Burley and Treasure McBath. Burley dropped a double-double on 19 points and 19 rebounds, while McBath dropped a double-double on 13 points and 18 boards. Burley has been hot for a while, having posted 12 or more rebounds the last nine times she's played. Lily Mehan was another key player, putting up 16 points.

Baker's defeat dropped their record down to 4-8. As for Trona, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 10-5.

Baker has already played their next contest (against Lone Pine), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Trona does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
