Baseball Recap: Effingham County Finds Playoff Glory Versus East Paulding

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Effingham County walked away with it. They had just enough and edged out the East Paulding Raiders 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rebels have posted since March 27th.

Kyle Thomas spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Effingham County's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Wells, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double.

The win (which was Effingham County's third in a row) raised their record to 26-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for East Paulding, their loss dropped their record down to 17-15.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Effingham County beat the Raiders by a score of 13-5 later that day.
