Football Recap: Highland Starts Season with Win at Home

Highland gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They walked away with a 20-12 win over the Manzano Monarchs. The Hornets have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Monarchs, too.

Highland found their leader in sophomore William Anchondo, who rushed for 141 yards and two TDs on only 12 carries.

Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Highland proved: they limited Manzano to a paltry 1.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Curtis Ryan for the heroic effort on defense: he. Highland didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.5.

Although Manzano took the loss, they still got scores from Aiden Erickson and Jacob Vasquez.

Coming up, Highland will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Bernalillo at 7:00 p.m. As for Manzano, they will head out to challenge Rio Grande at 7:00 p.m. on the 29th.
