Mountain View extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Friday, dropping them down to 0-4. They fell 10-7 to the Brush Beetdiggers. On the bright side, the seven- run performance marked the Mountain Lions' highest-scoring match to date.
Izabella Atwood was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs off eight hits. Atwood was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs. Those stolen bases were her first of the season.
In other batting news, Zylla Rodriguez and Alexa Lanauze did some serious damage despite the final result: Rodriguez got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI, while Lanauze went 1-for-2 with three RBI. Rodriguez also got a hit, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Emerson Lamar, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
As for Brush, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 12.0 runs this season.
Like Mountain View, Brush also got a great game from a two-way player: Emry Chard. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Those six strikeouts gave Chard a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Brush let Gracie Martinez and Izabella Talmich run wild. Martinez went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Talmich went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Elizabeth Peckham was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Mountain View will square off against Rangeview at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Brush, they will take on Fountain-Fort Carson at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
