While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 615th, while the Cougars are ranked 233rd).

Pacheco has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 48-40 defeat to Los Banos.

Lathrop's loss dropped their record down to 7-6. As for Pacheco, they suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 9-5.

Everything came up roses for Lathrop against Pacheco in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 55-28 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lathrop since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
