The Needles Mustangs will take on the Fernley Vaqueros in a tournament on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Needles' pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They walked away with a 3-0 victory over Lowry. The win continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Buckaroos: they've now won three in a row.
Not much got past Gabe Rodriguez, who gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks to keep Lowry off the board.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Connor Goulet, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. Another player making a difference was Gavin Hazlewood, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Fernley got the win against Mohave on Friday by a conclusive 12-0.
Matthew Bigrigg made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over five innings pitched. Bigrigg was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, Vance Swindlehurst was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Riley McCullar was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one triple.
Fernley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mohave only posted an OBP of .222.
Fernley's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Needles, they now have a winning record of 2-1.
