Basketball Recap: Friday's Defeat Ends Desert Christian's Winning Streak

After a string of eight wins, Desert Christian's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of the Santa Clarita Christian Cardinals by a score of 46-44. The Knights were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Cardinals apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Desert Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makenzie Duffee, who posted two points along with 11 rebounds, seven steals, and four blocks. Duffee is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Ava Armstrong was another key player, putting up ten points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Desert Christian smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in four consecutive matchups.

Desert Christian's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 9-4. As for Santa Clarita Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season.

Desert Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 49-19 victory against Faith Baptist on the 7th. As for Santa Clarita Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 35-21 win against Newbury Park Adventist on the 6th.
