Mt. Vernon has gone 9-1 against New Castle recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Marauders are taking a road trip to challenge the Trojans at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with eight consecutive losses dating back to last season for Mt. Vernon and four for New Castle.

Mt. Vernon is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Pendleton Heights on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Marauders were dealt a 56-13 loss at the hands of the Arabians. While losing is never fun, the Marauders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana football rankings (they are ranked 158th, while the Arabians are ranked 17th).

Although Mt. Vernon took the loss, they still got scores from Mason Meyer and Evan Privett.

Even if they lost, Mt. Vernon's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Grady Furnas, Alex Robbins, and Lukas Quispe, who each picked up one sack apiece.

The home team had won the previous four meetings between New Castle and Delta, and Delta kept the tradition alive. The Trojans took a 27-20 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Eagles on Friday.

Mt. Vernon will need to focus on slowing down Alijah Turner, one of several New Castle players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 116 receiving yards and three TDs. Turner also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up 0.5 sacks and making three total tackles (1.0 for loss). Another player making a difference was Carson Bell, who threw for 206 yards and three touchdowns.

New Castle's defeat dropped their record down to 1-5. As for Mt. Vernon, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.

Mt. Vernon took their win against New Castle in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 45-21 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Marauders since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
