Basketball Recap: Classical Academy Takes a Loss

Classical Academy was the 53-40 winner over Escondido Charter when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. The Classical Academy Caimans were beaten by the Escondido Charter Tigers 54-27 on Friday. While losing is never fun, the Caimans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 822nd, while the Tigers are ranked 368th).

Kami Gillis was a one-woman wrecking crew for Escondido Charter as she posted 19 points in addition to eight boards and five assists. What's more, Gillis also racked up three blocks, the most she's had since back in December of 2023. Faith Grayson was another key player, putting up ten points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Classical Academy's defeat was their fifth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Escondido Charter, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a massive bump to their 14-8 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Classical Academy will venture away from home to take on Pacific Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Escondido Charter, they are taking a road trip to square off against Santa Fe Christian at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Escondido Charter is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.1 points per game this season.
