Preview: Sierra Timberwolves vs. East Union Lancers
Sierra is 0-10 against East Union since February of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Sierra Timberwolves will look to defend their home court against the East Union Lancers at 7:30 p.m. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Sierra's four-game losing streak came to an end on Thursday. They strolled past Central Catholic with points to spare, taking the game 50-34.
Sierra relied on the efforts of Mya Everett, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds and two blocks, and Abigail Chapman, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Chapman also posted two+ blocks for the first time this season. Emma Gilmore was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, East Union had already won 13 in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 23.8 points), and they went ahead and made it 14 on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 59-40 win over Oakdale. Given East Union's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while Oakdale is ranked 741st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sierra's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 12-10. As for East Union, they are on a roll lately: they've won 15 of their last 16 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season.
Sierra came up short against East Union in their previous matchup two weeks ago, falling 42-31. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of East Union's Alessandra Montes, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds. Now that Sierra knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
