Basketball Recap: Smethport Hubbers vs. Austin Panthers
After flying high against the Galeton Tigers last Tuesday, the Smethport Hubbers came back down to earth. Smethport fell 47-34 to the Panthers on Friday. Smethport has struggled against the Panthers recently, as their match on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Smethport lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Elizabeth Hungiville, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 14 rebounds. Hungiville is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaidyn Goodman, who scored 15 points along with eight rebounds.
Smethport's defeat dropped their record down to 4-14. As for Austin, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.
Smethport will head out on the road to take on the Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Johnsonburg has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 20. As for Austin, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Falcons at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
