Football Recap: Yates Skates Past Wheatley with Ease

It was a proper cat-fight when Yates challenged Wheatley on Friday. The Lions took their contest with ease, bagging a 49-7 win over the Wildcats. Fans of the Lions have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

A big part of Yates' victory came down to the chemistry between Chris Brown and his top target Jordan Simmons. Brown rushed for 110 yards and two TDs on only eight carries while Simmons rushed for 130 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only seven carries. Simmons' longest rush was for an impressive 64 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.

Yates was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 322 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Yates didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as McKinley Davis, Cortland Blackshire, and Edward Shinall picked up one apiece. Davis is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last seven games he's played dating back to last season. Orie Lemon was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making five total tackles (2.0 for loss).

The win keeps Yates at an undefeated 4-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 42.0 points this season. As for Wheatley, they dropped their record down to 0-4 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Yates didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 55-14 win against Worthing on the 27th. As for Wheatley, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 56-0 victory against Northside on the 25th.
