Baseball Game Preview: Prince Avenue Christian Wolverines vs. Metter Tigers

The Prince Avenue Christian Wolverines will take on the Metter Tigers at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Prince Avenue Christian has three straight victories, Metter has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Prince Avenue Christian is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Savannah Country Day with a sharp 12-3 win on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Prince Avenue Christian got a great performance from Cole Broxton as he struck out eight batters over 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. The dominant performance gave Broxton a new career-high in strikeouts.

At the plate, Luke Burnett was a standout: he scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Judson Hartwell, who scored three runs and stole three bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

Prince Avenue Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .537. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Savannah Country Day only posted an OBP of .333.

Meanwhile, Metter fell victim to Appling County and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 13-0 to the Pirates.

Metter's defeat dropped their record down to 0-4. As for Prince Avenue Christian, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.

Prince Avenue Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Metter when the teams last played back in May of 2023, sneaking past 9-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for Prince Avenue Christian since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
