Carter Spatz looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Torin Dunphy, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Gabe Coca was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Monte Vista kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Liberty won against Freedom on Tuesday with ten runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Lions never let the Falcons get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. The Lions might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.
Keoni Kaanehe tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched.
At the plate, Chayce Formosa was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Stevie Wellens, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Liberty's victory bumped their record up to 17-7. As for Monte Vista, their win bumped their record up to 18-6.
Everything went Monte Vista's way against Liberty in their previous matchup back in May of 2017, as Monte Vista made off with a 10-2 victory. Will the Mustangs repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
