Basketball Recap: Hemet Triumphs

If Canyon Springs wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Hemet, they should've done a better job of containing Shiloh Wigal. The Bulldogs snuck past the Cougars with a 45-39 win on Wednesday with plenty of help from Wigal, who shot 63% from the field to rack up 10 points and five steals. Hemet is 7-1 when Wigal posts three or more steals, but 5-6 otherwise.

The team also got some help courtesy of Jeglia Butler, who posted 12 points. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Hemet's victory bumped their record up to 12-7. As for Canyon Springs, they have been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-13 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Hemet will challenge rival Heritage at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant forwards against one another: Ruby Gonzalez Horta and LaKaila Trimble. Meanwhile, Canyon Springs is set to face off against their familiar foe Valley View at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
