Baseball Recap: Roncalli Triumphs

Roncalli owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Friday. They walked away with a 5-0 win over the Carmel Greyhounds. For the Royals, this counts as revenge for the 9-7 victory the Greyhounds walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.

Not much got past Collin Ash, who gave up just two hits and racked up 12 Ks to keep Carmel off the board. Ash has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Roncalli let Carrington Pitts and Gio Ardizzone run wild. Pitts went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI, while Ardizzone went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run marked the first that Pitts has launched this season.

Roncalli's record is now 17-5. As for Carmel, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last nine contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season.

Roncalli will head out to take on Fairmont at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Firebirds have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 6.72 runs per game on average), something the Royals will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Carmel, they will square off against Mt. Vernon at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Greyhounds' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Marauders have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
