Alamosa hasn't had much luck against Lamar recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Mean Moose will be playing in front of their home fans against the Thunder at 12:00 p.m. Alamosa is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
While Alamosa's victory against Rocky Ford wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Mean Moose narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Meloneers 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Mean Moose have posted since September 5th.
Olivia Castillo tossed a big game, tossing 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Leah Higareda, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Shaya Martin, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Lamar entered their tilt with La Junta on Tuesday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Tigers a 3-0 shutout.
Carlin Weber made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 13 over seven innings pitched. Those 13 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Weber wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Khloe Fernandez, who went 1-for-2 with one run.
Lamar's win bumped their record up to 11-8. As for Alamosa, their victory bumped their record up to 14-7.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Alamosa hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .369. However, it's not like Lamar struggles in that department as they've averaged .333. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Alamosa couldn't quite finish off Lamar in their previous matchup last Saturday and fell 2-0. Will the Mean Moose have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
