Baseball Game Preview: San Ysidro Cougars vs. Carlsbad Lancers

The San Ysidro Cougars will take on the Carlsbad Lancers at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Neither San Ysidro nor Carlsbad posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

San Ysidro fell victim to Escondido and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of Escondido. San Ysidro's defeat signaled the end of their undefeated season.

Carlos Gomez was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.

At the plate, San Ysidro saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Armann Robles, who went 1-for-3 with one double. That double marked the first that Robles hit this season.

Meanwhile, Carlsbad owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out El Camino 1-0. The one-run effort marked the Lancers' lowest-scoring match of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Ian Fisher tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run while striking out seven over six innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024.
