Baseball Recap: New Castle Takes a Loss

New Castle extended their losing streak to six on Wednesday, dropping them down to 5-16. They took a 7-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the New Palestine Dragons. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Trojans of the 11-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2025.

New Castle saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Caiden Ragan, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

As for New Palestine, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games.

On New Palestine's side, Holden Hughes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on three hits and racked up seven Ks. Hughes has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jacob Morris, who went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Isaac Gauthier also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Coming up, New Castle will square off against Muncie Central at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bearcats have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 10.64 runs per game on average), something the Trojans will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for New Palestine, they will face off against Delta at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
