Soccer Game Preview: San Dimas vs. King

The San Dimas Saints will be taking part in a tournament against the King Wolves at 8:00 a.m. on Thursday.

Thursday just wasn't the day for San Dimas' offense. They fell 2-0 to Diamond Ranch on Thursday. The Saints have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

While King didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14-2), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Arlington on Friday, sneaking past 2-1. The victory was all the more spectacular given Wolves' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Lions are ranked tenth).

King used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Arlington. Lilly Guerrero played for 17 minutes having averaged 9 this season and Gianinna Barillas got 80 vs. an average of 55.2. Barillas made the most of the opportunity, scoring a goal A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.

San Dimas' loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for King, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2-2 record this season.

San Dimas skirted past King 2-1 in their previous matchup back in February of 2023. Does San Dimas have another victory up their sleeve, or will King turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
