Basketball Recap: Esparto Comes Up Short

Esparto saw some tournament action on Saturday. They were dealt an 88-9 defeat at the hands of the Riverbank Bruins. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1112th, while the Bruins are ranked 124th).

It was another big night for Taylor Macias, who went 21 of 25 on her way to 48 points and six boards for Riverbank. The team also got some help courtesy of Avah Luu, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Esparto and nudges their season record down to 2-6. As for Riverbank, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.

Esparto will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Delta at 6:00 p.m. on January 9, 2025. As for Riverbank, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 64-26 win against Orestimba on the 26th.
