Preview: Del Norte Nighthawks vs. Westview Wolverines
Del Norte has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Westview Wolverines at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Wednesday, Del Norte strolled past Rancho Bernardo with points to spare, taking the game 54-37.
Bailey Barnhard was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 31 points and 16 rebounds. Barnhard is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Addison Cottle was another key contributor, scoring two points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Westview's six-game losing streak came to an end on Wednesday. They blew past San Marcos 65-37 at home. Given Westview's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while San Marcos is ranked 352nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Del Norte pushed their record up to 16-4 with that win, which was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. Westview's record is now 11-8.
Del Norte barely slipped by Westview in their previous meeting back in February of 2023, winning 63-62. Does Del Norte have another victory up their sleeve, or will Westview turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
