Football Recap: Clearfield Falcons vs. Kearns Cougars
Clearfield was handed a heart-breaking three-point loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Kearns on Friday. The Falcons simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Cougars 34-7. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Falcons considering their six-point performance the match before.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Clearfield to victory, but perhaps none more so than Landon Hittle, who rushed for 81 yards and one touchdown on only five carries. Hittle's longest rush was for an impressive 56 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another receiver making a difference was Zane Bassett, who picked up 29 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Clearfield proved: they limited Kearns to a paltry 2.3 yards per carry. While two picked up at least seven total tackles, Kai Cunliffe stood above the rest. He picked up four sacks and made seven total tackles. Clearfield didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 7.8.
Clearfield's defense also made the game a nightmare for Manuel Deegan., racking up nine sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Cunliffe and Brison Davies, who racked up seven sacks between them.
The victory got Clearfield back to even at 1-1. As for Kearns, they dropped their record down to 1-1 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.
