Football Game Preview: Van Wert Cougars vs. Shawnee Indians + How To Watch

Van Wert has gone 7-2 against Shawnee recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Cougars will head out to square off against the Indians at 7:00 p.m. Shawnee took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Van Wert, who comes in off a win.

Van Wert took a loss when they played away from home two weeks ago, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They strolled past Ottawa-Glandorf with points to spare, taking the game 38-20. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cougars' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 171st, while the Titans are ranked 343rd).

Van Wert's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Xavier Kelly, who rushed for 126 yards and one TD while picking up 7.4 yards per carry. Micah Cowan was in the mix too, providing the Cougars with two touchdowns.

Van Wert's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Nick Edwards was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself. The game marked his first with multiple sacks this season. Cohen Bragg got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Shawnee didn't have quite enough to beat Memorial on Friday and fell 31-28. The Indians have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Van Wert's victory ended a four-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-4. As for Shawnee, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.

Van Wert strolled past Shawnee in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a score of 28-14. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
