Softball Recap: Murray County Comes Up Short

Murray County extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 0-4. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Warriors. On the bright side, the three- run performance marked the Indians' highest-scoring match to date.

As for Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, the victory got them back to even at 2-2. The win made it back-to-back victories for they.

For Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe's part, Lizet Jimenez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched eight innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave Jimenez a new career-high in strikeouts (three). She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs.

In other batting news, Hope Alexander was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two runs and one double. That double was her first of the season. Kayleigh Johnson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Murray County will take on Dade County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The Wolverines' pitching crew has only allowed 2.1 runs per game this season, so the Indians' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe, they will square off against North Cobb Christian at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
