Basketball Recap: Sayre Comes Up Short

Sayre lost against Troy back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Sayre Redskins were dealt a 75-20 loss at the hands of the Troy Trojans. While losing is never fun, the Redskins can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 677th, while the Trojans are ranked 103rd).

When it comes to explaining why Sayre lost, don't look at Rylee Lantz. Despite the final result, she went 6 of 7 on her way to 12 points and seven boards. The dominant performance gave Lantz a new career-high in points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Troy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Alyssa Parks, who went 8 for 14 en route to 20 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists. Parks is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last nine games she's played. Kailyn Sterling was another key player, going 7 of 11 on her way to 14 points and three steals.

Sayre dropped their record down to 1-11 with the defeat, which was their 18th straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Troy, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 10-4.

Sayre will square off against Mansfield at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sayre is facing Mansfield at the right time seeing as Mansfield is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Troy, they will challenge Williamson at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Troy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Williamson likes a good challenge.
