Preview: Gabrielino Eagles vs. El Monte Lions

Gabrielino is 10-0 against El Monte since February of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Gabrielino Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the El Monte Lions at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Gabrielino has four straight victories, El Monte has 14 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

In what's become a running theme this season, Gabrielino gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They blew past South El Monte 58-15 at home. Given Gabrielino's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 376th, while South El Monte is ranked 1019th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gabrielino had a senior duo take command as Mia Lim dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds and Sarah Banh scored 12 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Lim is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games she's played. Shannon Yan was another key contributor, scoring seven points.

El Monte suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They had to suffer through a rough 55-10 loss at the hands of Arroyo. El Monte was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 33-4.

Gabrielino pushed their record up to 13-7 with that win, which was their fourth straight at home. As for El Monte, their loss dropped their record down to 0-13.

Everything came up roses for Gabrielino against El Monte when the teams last played back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 67-10 victory. With Gabrielino ahead 35-6 at the half, the match was all but over already.
