Basketball Recap: River Islands Takes a Loss

River Islands lost against Franklin back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The River Islands Riptide were dealt a 63-28 defeat at the hands of the Franklin Yellowjackets. The Riptide were down 47-21 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

Franklin found their leader in sophomore Nicole Belasco, who went 7 of 12 en route to 19 points and three steals. That's the most points Belasco has posted since back in December of 2024. Another player making a difference was Cheynne Pitts, who posted 12 points and six rebounds.

River Islands has been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-16 record this season. As for Franklin, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-11.

River Islands didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 61-32 loss against Venture Academy on the 4th. Franklin has also already played their next contest, a 43-30 defeat against Tokay on the 4th.
