Baseball Game Preview: Brighton Bulldogs vs. Williamston Hornets

The Brighton Bulldogs will take on the Williamston Hornets in a tournament on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Brighton 2.3, Williamston 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Brighton is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Michigan's top teams: Dexter, who was ranked 15th at the time (Brighton was ranked fourth). The Bulldogs took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dreadnaughts on Friday. The Bulldogs' loss signaled the end of their six-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Williamston had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 4.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They were the clear victors by an 8-1 margin over the Eagles. Considering the Hornets have won 13 games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Keagan Batchelor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on two hits.

At the plate, Williamston got a massive performance out of Kaleb Nielson, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one double. Another player making a difference was Hunter (Hawk) Harding, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI and one stolen base.

Williamston was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Brighton's defeat dropped their record down to 25-5. As for Williamston, their victory bumped their record up to 21-5.
