Preview: Meyersdale Red Raiders vs. Blacklick Valley Vikings
The Meyersdale Red Raiders will head out on the road to face off against the Blacklick Valley Vikings at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Meyersdale has struggled recently with three defeats in a row, while Blacklick Valley will arrive with six straight wins.
On Friday, Meyersdale was beaten by Berlin Brothersvalley 69-27.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Jessica Daughton, who scored eight points. The team also got some help courtesy of Izabella Donaldson, who scored seven points.
Blacklick Valley has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five matches by 27 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Turkeyfoot Valley Area 51-19 at home. Given Blacklick Valley's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while Turkeyfoot Valley Area is ranked 274th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Kristin Szymusiak, who scored 16 points along with six steals. Szymusiak is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Kaydence Killinger was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three steals.
Meyersdale now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Blacklick Valley, their victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-0.
Meyersdale suffered a grim 62-40 defeat to Blacklick Valley in their previous matchup back in February. Can Meyersdale avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
