Basketball Recap: San Pasqual Comes Up Short

San Pasqual lost against Mt. Carmel back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The San Pasqual Golden Eagles took a blow against the Mt. Carmel Sundevils, falling 70-23. The Golden Eagles were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 50-13.

Despite the defeat, San Pasqual saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jackie Perez posted 16 points. That was a full 69.6% of San Pasqual's points, marking the 12th time in a row she's had more than a third of the team's points.

Mt. Carmel's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kiyanna Ellis, who went 6 for 9 on her way to 12 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. What's more, Ellis also posted a 67% field goal percentage, which is the highest she's posted since back in December of 2024. Ariana Gonzalez was another key player, going 6 of 9 en route to 12 points along with six assists and five boards.

San Pasqual has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. As for Mt. Carmel, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 14-11.

San Pasqual wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 59-16 loss against San Marcos on the 7th. As for Mt. Carmel, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 71-8 victory against Ramona on the 7th.
