Softball Recap: Gretna Wins High-Profile Contest Against Blair

Gretna faced Blair in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Dragons walked away with an 8-4 win over the Bears. The Dragons haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive victory against them.

Taelyn Rupiper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on five hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Maddie Kurrus was incredible, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-4. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in August. Megan Marshall was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Gretna hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive matchups.

Gretna's record now sits at 22-6. As for Blair, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 22-8.

Coming up, Gretna will take on Pius X at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Dragons' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Thunderbolts have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Blair, they will square off against Bennington on Thursday. The Badgers' pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so the Bears' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
