Baseball Recap: The Dalles Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

The Dalles barely beat Madras the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Riverhawks blew past the White Buffalos 13-7 on Friday. The win was some much needed relief for the Riverhawks as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Evan Ortega was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off eight hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. He has become a key player for The Dalles: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 8-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, Joel Ortega and Hunter Bustos did most of the damage at the plate: Joel went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI, while Bustos went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Bustos has posted since back in March. Kale Beardmore was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

The Dalles' victory bumped their record up to 13-10. As for Madras, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 12 of their last 16 matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season.
