Baseball Game Preview: Mount Vernon Mustangs vs. Newton Rams

The Mount Vernon Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Newton Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Newton took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Mount Vernon, who comes in off a win.

Newton will challenge a team with plenty of momentum: Mount Vernon extended their winning streak to three on Thursday. The Mustangs were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over Wheeler.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Newton's offense. They fell just short of Archer by a score of 2-0 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Rams have suffered since April 4, 2024.

Caden Brown made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Newton: the team is 6-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 9-10 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Kris Ross, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3.

Mount Vernon now has a winning record of 10-9. As for Newton, their defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 15-11.
