Baseball Recap: Westwood Takes Down Heritage Preparatory in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Westwood had no trouble coming through when it counted. They put the hurt on the Heritage Preparatory Rams with a sharp 16-8 win on Friday. The Wildcats' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

Bryce Roberts was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases, three runs, and one double. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sam Summerlin, who fired off two home runs, four runs, and two stolen bases while going 4-for-4. What's more, he posted four RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Noah Sherman also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Westwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Westwood's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-9. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Heritage Preparatory, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-13-1 record this season.
