Hart won the last time they faced Canyon and things went their way on Wednesday too. The Hart Hawks escaped with a win against the Canyon Cowboys by the margin of a single free throw, 41-40. The win was nothing new for the Hawks as they're now sitting on five straight.
Hart got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Morgan Mack out in front who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Emery Eav, who posted seven points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals.
Hart smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 12 consecutive contests.
Despite the loss, Canyon still got an impressive performance from Lanie Rafkind, who went 6 of 9 from beyond the arc to rack up 22 points and five boards. The dominant performance gave Rafkind a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Brooke Phillips, who put up three points and five rebounds.
Hart's win bumped their record up to 20-7. As for Canyon, their loss dropped their record down to 14-14.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hart will challenge San Jacinto at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. San Jacinto knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Hart likes a good challenge. As for Canyon, they will face off against Notre Dame Academy at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th. Notre Dame Academy will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something Canyon surely won't give up without a fight.
