Texas took a three-set loss the last time they faced off against Lufkin, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Tigers narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Panthers 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted since August 15th.

Texas took Lufkin into a fifth set where they got it done with a five-point win. The match finished with set scores of 17-25, 25-19, 25-23, 22-25, 15-10.

Kyleigh Perkins paced Texas' offense, picking up 19 kills. Perkins really made an impact as she also led the team in assists with 14. Taryne Stiger and Acasia Nelson kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with three aces apiece.

Texas is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-15 record this season. As for Lufkin, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five matches and leaves them with a 28-8 record.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Texas is set to square off against their familiar foe Tyler at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Lufkin will take on rival Whitehouse at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
