Preview: Smethport Hubbers vs. Oswayo Valley Green Wave
Smethport and Oswayo Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2018, but not for long. The Smethport Hubbers will head out on the road to take on the Oswayo Valley Green Wave at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Smethport is hoping to put an end to a four-game streak of away losses.
Last Monday, Smethport came up short against Austin and fell 36-27. Smethport has not had much luck with Austin recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Despite their defeat, Smethport saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Elizabeth Hungiville, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 18 rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Hungiville is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Jaidyn Goodman, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of four wins, Oswayo Valley's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. The game between Oswayo Valley and Otto-Eldred wasn't particularly close, with Oswayo Valley falling 32-18.
Smethport has been struggling recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-11 record this season. As for Oswayo Valley, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-4.
Smethport came up short against Oswayo Valley in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 42-34. Can Smethport avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
