Baseball Recap: Westside Snags Seventh Victory in Last Eight Games

Westside proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 16) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Burke County Bears 3-1. While the Patriots didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Hunter Barrow spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on two hits and racked up 13 Ks. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Westside's victory was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Justin Lampkin, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Westside has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. Burke County dropped their record down to 0-5 with the defeat, which was their third straight on the road.

Westside didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 14-0 loss against West Laurens on the 11th. As for Burke County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 17-1 win against Josey on the 7th.
