Basketball Game Preview: Shasta Wolves vs. Pleasant Valley Vikings

Shasta hasn't had much luck against Pleasant Valley recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Shasta Wolves are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game this season. they will take on the Pleasant Valley Vikings at 6:30 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Shasta comes in on five and Pleasant Valley on eight.

Shasta will head into Friday's game hoping to keep the good times rolling: they had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the court, which might have inspired the 29-point drubbing they dealt Lassen on Friday. Shasta breezed by Lassen to the tune of 63-34. The Wolves have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five contests by 25 points or more this season.

Shasta had a senior duo take command as Bria Tate posted 12 points and Kenna Dannenberg put up 12 points. The dominant performance gave Dannenberg a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cali Soule, who had eight points.

Meanwhile, Pleasant Valley earned a 67-60 win over Arcata on Saturday. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while the Tigers are ranked 165th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Pleasant Valley pushed their record up to 13-3 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.8 points per game. As for Shasta, their win bumped their record up to 11-1.

Shasta took a serious blow against Pleasant Valley when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 66-38. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Pleasant Valley's Aj Gambol, who went 10 of 20 on her way to 23 points in addition to six assists and three steals.
